Five Factors to Consider for a Successful Organic Farming

If you are planning to use organic farming the next time you plant your crops but are not sure as to what exactly you need to do to ensure a bountiful harvest, then it is only important for you to be able to know the important factors that you need to consider for a successful organic farming: the soil, use of fertilizers, planting techniques like crop rotation as well as proper weeding and watering your crops.

    Consider the soil
The basic thing that you should consider in organic farming is the soil. It is where plants get the nutrients that they need to grow healthy. To be able to have a good harvest of crops it is only necessary that the soil should be kept healthy too. This can actually be done by making a compost using various waste products from the garden such as grass clippings, chopped leaves as well as left over from the kitchen. Keep your soil healthy is one way that you’d be able to succeed in your step towards organic farming.

Avoid the use of synthetic and chemical fertilizers and herbicides
Another important thing that you should remember in organic planting is to avoid using synthetic and chemical fertilizers and herbicides. These chemicals are not healthy for growing plants and crops. You should always bear in mind that in organic farming, you need to be able to grow food that is healthy and nutritious for its consumers. When you don’t use synthetic fertilizers and herbicides when you plant,  you can also be assured that the land will be safe for children, pets and other wildlife that may come into contact with it. You should always bear in mind that in organic farming, only natural fertilizers are to be used and synthetic and chemical ones should be avoided.

    Intensive planting
You should also aim for intensive planting when you incorporate organic farming. In intensive planting, plants are spaced closely together. This is an important factor that you should consider because in intensive planting, you’d be able to conserve water and at the same time, shield the soil from too much exposure to sunlight. Furthermore, intensive planting also prevent weeds from growing in your land. You can be assured of a successful organic farming when you see to it that you go after intensive planting.

    Rotating Crops
One important factor in organic farming also includes rotating crops. This is the famous organic farming method wherein you don’t plant the same type of crops in the same piece of land simultaneously. Crop rotation is very effective in that it helps control the increase of soil-borne pests and diseases. This could then make your garden more productive. You should always bear in mind to use the crop rotation method for a better organic farming.

    Watering and Weeding
Lastly, try to consider your method of watering and weeding your plants. These are the most common tasks that need to be done but are also often overlooked. For a more effective watering, try to make use of soaker hoses, deep irrigation or even just by watering your plants by hand. Aside from that, you could also opt to use rainwater to conserve more water. This is an important factor that you must always consider towards achieving a successful organic farming.

The success of organic farming depends on how you apply the things that you need to do when you go planting. Keeping the soil healthy is the major step that you have to undertake to ensure a healthy crop during harvest time. Using only organic fertilizers can also ensure that the food you deliver will not only be nutritious but is also safe for people’s consumption. And by incorporating different planting techniques such as intensive planting as well as crop rotation can you be assured that crops are bountiful every time. And lastly, proper watering and weeding should be considered too. If you keep these things in mind, you’d be able to succeed in your effort towards organic farming.
